If you have oral allergies they can manifest themselves in various ways. If any of these symptoms seem familiar to you, you really should talk with us about it, as many people who have allergies are not even aware of the matter.

RED OR WHITE DISCOLORATION IN THE MUCOUS MEMBRANES

The skin the coats the inside of your mouth is very thin and quite sensitive to allergens. If you are eating a food and notice discolorations, it could be a sign that you are allergic to something in the food. We need to take a look to be sure, so make it a point to bring it up with us the next time we are visiting.

SWELLING

Some allergic reactions result in noticeable swelling of your lips, tongue, or other oral tissues. This can be awkward at best and downright dangerous at worst. If you are experiencing swelling, we should see you as soon as possible because your allergy could become life-threatening.

ULCERATION OR BLISTERING

Sometimes the tissues in your mouth will begin to blister or develop small sores called ulcers. This is not always a sign of an allergic reaction—there can actually be a number of reasons for this—however we need to see you in order to be certain.

DON’T PUT OFF VISITING YOUR DENTIST

Some people who have allergies think that it’s not a big deal and they can either tolerate the symptoms or just self-treat them. This can be dangerous, and we really do need to see you quickly if you suspect that you may have an oral allergy.

Oral allergies can be minor nuisances, but they can also be dangerous, so please do not hesitate to call us and set up an appointment. We are here to help you guard your health.
